Looking for Alaska

The characters in this book are very basic in the beginning
but when you read more and more and learn secrets and things about them, they
become complex. Miles in the beginning just wants to make friends and fit in
and belong to a group of people. He then becomes closer and closer to these
people. Miles eventually lets the readers know but not the characters that he
likes Alaska. He wants to be with her all the time and he even stays home on Thanksgiving
break to be with her. Chip seems very tough and cool in the beginning but once
Miles gets closer to him, they become really good friends and Miles learns
about the softer side that Chip has. Alaska is like a puzzle to Miles. One
moment she is crazy and drinking alcohol and the next she is crying over being
lonely and not seeing her boyfriend. Alaska likes to have fun and prank people
but sometimes she can go too far with the pranks. There are a few themes that
have appeared to far in this book. One is a person’s actions can hurt more than
just themselves. Another is the people a person spends the most time with is
whom they most closely resemble. This book is structured with lots of dialogue but
also lots of Miles thoughts.
